A Third of men wear underpants for three days before washing - Tuesday, September 14th, 2010
A third of British men (34%) wear their underpants for an astonishing three days before washing them, a new survey has revealed.
The study, by Dr. Beckmann Colour & Dirt Collector, also reveals that brit blokes own an average of 10 pairs of undies, but generally rotate between four or five favourite pairs.
Grey is 76% of Brit men's favourite colour of underwear because it's the easiest to wash without ruining and, according to the 2,080 men polled, grey underpants look new for longer than white or black - the second and third favourites.
The worst culprits for wearing undies the longest are those aged between 18 - 25. They make up almost 90% of the blokes who go three days without changing their pants.
This phenomenon has been dubbed the 'Mum Effect' because most of the blokes in the 18-25 age range still live at home and expect their mother to make sure there are clean underpants in their smalls drawer daily. If there aren't, they just continue to wear the same pair, the survey reveals.
Only 35% or British men admit to wearing clean underpants every day - the majority of those are aged 40 and above. Three out of ten males aged between 18 - 50 change their underwear at least every two days. But a sobering 34% admit they regularly wear their boxers for three days before changing them.
Even more shocking is that 10 per cent of those who wait three days to change their underpants also admit that they have even turned their favourite pants inside out to prolong time between washes.
Dr. Beckmann spokesman Steven Simpson said:
Clearly, wearing your underwear for three days before changing them isn't something that anyone should encourage.
The fact that so many men are doing it is what makes this revelation so shocking. It is likely more to do with laziness that it is with any other explanation. It's a phenomenon we would definately discourage.
It's a shame that men prefer grey underwear purely as it's the least likely to get ruined. Men could wear coloured boxers if they used Colour & Dirt Collector product as it traps all the stray dirt and colout in every wash so garments stay nice and bright.
