Dirty Dreamers – Pyjamas are the dirtiest clothes in Britain - Thursday, November 11th, 2010
Pyjamas are officially the dirtiest clothes in Britain, a new survey has revealed.
According to a poll by laundry experts Dr. Beckmann, a staggering 52% of Brits wash their pyjamas only once a fortnight, with 10% admitting they only wash their bed clothes once a month.
The results also exposed women as the dirtier of the sexes - with 59% of females ages between 18-25 confessing they only wash their PJ's every two weeks, compared to only 23% of their male counterparts admitting the same.
Dr. Beckmann can also reveal the grubbiest bed clothes belong to Mancunians as a whopping 54% wash their pyjamas only once a month. The freshest bedclothes belong to Londoners, with 42% claiming they wash their sleepwear three times a week.
According to top psychologist Donna Dawson, people have a strong emotional attachment to their pyjamas, just like they do with their beds. Donna explains:
Our pyjamas represent a retreat from a tiring day, an escape into the world of rest and relaxation, as well as confort, cosiness, warmth, and psychological security.
Adding out individual 'scent' to them just makes them more a part of us. Although we may rationalise that our pyjamas are not dirty because we do little in them apart from sleeping, on a subconscious level we are avoiding washing them in order to prolong the smell signature which makes our pyjamas like a second, safe skin to climb into.

A women’s work is never done….until 10.30pm - Friday, October 8th, 2010
British women are working later than ever to keep up with their domestic duties, a new national study has revealed.
The survey, of 1080 working women across the UK, shows that with extra work and family commitments most women in Britain are forced to play catch up with domestic duties and are having to start their daily chores later than ever before.
An overwhelming 67% of women claim that it's usually around 8.30pm before their hectic schedule allows them to start domestic chores like loading the washing machine.
The majority of working British women (53%) don't finish their daily household chores until 10.30pm at night, according to the study by laundry experts Dr. Beckmann with one in 10 admitting that they are busy with family cleaning and washing until past 11.00pm most nights.
That means they spend the majority of their out-of-work time washing and cleaning, leaving women little 'me' time to socialise of catch up on family news.
Dr. Beckmann spokesman Steven Simpson said:
According to our survey, a 21st century woman's work really is never done. Women in the UK are constantly on the go, maybe more busy once they have left the workplace.
While the men of the house find it easy to relax once the evening family meal is out of the way, and the children can choose to watch TV or go out to play with their friends once they have completed their homework, the average woman of the house has another two of three hours of domestic duties to perform - such as washing, vacuuming and general tidying up.
With number of women holding down 9-5 jobs increasing every decade they have less and less extra-curricular time to complete household tasks and, despite the fact that men are doing more around the house than previously, the majority of domestic duties are still completed by women.
Women living in Newcastle perform more domestic duties than their counterparts across the UK. Geordie females spend an average of 3.2 hours completing household tasks every day. But London ladies get the easiest household chores schedule with less than half as much time on domestic duties - just 1.3 hours a day.

Women are shunning fancy, colourful and sexy underwear in favour of simple nude coloured lingerie, a recent survey has revealed.
According to a poll by laundry experts Dr. Beckmann, 72% of women now opt for nude or flesh toned lingerie when shopping - shunning the classic white and black briefs or fancy lacey sets.
It seems celebrities may be responsible for the change in the nation's taste in lingerie - with hollywood siren Eva Mendes revealing recently that she feels most sexy in "either nude or very basic underwear" and pop starlet Katy Perry choosing a simple nude bra and knickers above sexy lace to wear on the front of Rolling Stones magazine.
According to psychologist Donna Dawson, this shift is women's lingerie inclination is significant as the colour of a women's bra reveals much more than it covers up. Donna Dawson explains:
Colours at the 'warm' end of the spectrum (red, orange, yellow), create feelings of excitement and vitality, and can actually raise your blood pressure, heartbeat and breathing rate.
So what does this mean for the nude lingerie trend followers?
Donna explains:

A Third of men wear underpants for three days before washing - Tuesday, September 14th, 2010
A third of British men (34%) wear their underpants for an astonishing three days before washing them, a new survey has revealed.
The study, by Dr. Beckmann Colour & Dirt Collector, also reveals that brit blokes own an average of 10 pairs of undies, but generally rotate between four or five favourite pairs.
Grey is 76% of Brit men's favourite colour of underwear because it's the easiest to wash without ruining and, according to the 2,080 men polled, grey underpants look new for longer than white or black - the second and third favourites.
The worst culprits for wearing undies the longest are those aged between 18 - 25. They make up almost 90% of the blokes who go three days without changing their pants.
This phenomenon has been dubbed the 'Mum Effect' because most of the blokes in the 18-25 age range still live at home and expect their mother to make sure there are clean underpants in their smalls drawer daily. If there aren't, they just continue to wear the same pair, the survey reveals.
Only 35% or British men admit to wearing clean underpants every day - the majority of those are aged 40 and above. Three out of ten males aged between 18 - 50 change their underwear at least every two days. But a sobering 34% admit they regularly wear their boxers for three days before changing them.
Even more shocking is that 10 per cent of those who wait three days to change their underpants also admit that they have even turned their favourite pants inside out to prolong time between washes.
Dr. Beckmann spokesman Steven Simpson said:
Clearly, wearing your underwear for three days before changing them isn't something that anyone should encourage.
The fact that so many men are doing it is what makes this revelation so shocking. It is likely more to do with laziness that it is with any other explanation. It's a phenomenon we would definately discourage.
It's a shame that men prefer grey underwear purely as it's the least likely to get ruined. Men could wear coloured boxers if they used Colour & Dirt Collector product as it traps all the stray dirt and colout in every wash so garments stay nice and bright.
